Menopausal Symptoms

The menopause is a natural milestone in every woman’s life, which usually occurs during her late forties or early fifties.  The level of estrogen and progesterone produced by the ovaries drops significantly, and these hormonal changes cause a woman to stop having her period.

Women vary widely in their experiences of menopausal symptoms. Some women suffer little discomfort while others may experience a range of symptoms, including hot flushes, night sweats, insomnia, vaginal dryness, palpitations, headaches, depression and reduced sex drive. The deficiency in estrogen can also lead to a thinning and weakening of the bones (osteoporosis), leading to an increased risk of fracture.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the main medical treatment for menopausal symptoms prescribed by healthcare professionals in suitable women. However, some women may choose non-prescription options.
