Acid-related Disorders

Acid-related disorders are often referred to by healthcare professionals under the umbrella term ‘dyspepsia’, meaning ‘bad’ (dys) ‘digestion’ (pepsia).  Patients often refer to their symptoms as indigestion, heartburn, excess acid and trapped wind.

40% of adults in the UK suffer some kind of dyspepsia in any year, although only about 2% consult their doctor. Some people can suffer so severely that it has a major impact on their quality of life.

Treatment for acid-related disorders is not just about medical treatment. Many people can benefit from making lifestyle modification measures such as stopping or cutting down smoking, losing excessive weight, avoiding over eating and eating late at night, and increasing exercise.
